We love it when a new hero bag comes to market so we have something fresh to drool over, pine for and covet. The latest object of our affection comes courtesy of those accessory maestros at Alexander McQueen, who today launch their new baby, the 'Heroine' (see what they did there?).

Described by McQueen as a "timeless luxury piece" the Heroine is the luxe love child of the satchel and the doctor's bag, with a teardrop profile and short, tote-style handles.

It comes in a small, rectangular shape, and a medium square form (already spotted swinging on Zoe Saldana's arm), and is basically a total beauty.

To mark the launch, and McQueen's increased focus on accessories, the Heroine is starring in its very own campaign shot by renowned still life photographer Dan Tobin Smith in which she sits in all her black croc amazingness spot lit on a crisp white graphic backdrop.

Spoiler alert: if you're holding out for a Heroine to call your own, maybe double check your bank balance before dashing to the Alexander McQueen store. The 'cheapest' version in oxblood suede comes in at £1,345, while the black croc of ad campaign fame will set you back £22,295.

A hefty price tag indeed, but much like the class A drug with which she virtually shares a name, when something's this addictive, consumers seem find the money somehow.

UK officially the most designer handbag crazy country

Call it conspicuous consumption, or perhaps copycat consumption - as fashionistas splurge on the four-figure 'It' bags toted by their style icons - the UK now has the 'highest affinity for luxury handbags'.

Research carried out by the World Luxury Index™ , an international ranking and analysis agency, showed that Britons accounted for 422 searches per 1000 internet users of most searched-for handbag brands, with home-grown label Mulberry as the most popular brand of choice.

Trending: Mini bags

The company examined over 130 brands, through 130 million searches across eight countries with American luggage label Coach coming out top. Mulberry came in eighth in a top 10 which features luxury heavyweights, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermès.

The iconic Hermès Birkin is the most searched for model across all markets, with crocodile most sought after in the US, UK and France. Research also showed that Americans prefer their Birkin in orange, while Britons favour tan and the French, black.

The US also has the largest share of searches for Chanel's classic 2.55 style which is toted by Kate Moss, Diane Kruger and Linda Evangelista.

The study also noted that in Japan, consumers have somewhat fallen out of love with Louis Vuitton goods. The brand is ranked ninth in Japan - making it the only country where it does not rank in the top five.

Coach, which is fronted by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, enjoys a huge slice of the American market, but is much less popular internationally than its global number one ranking suggests. Meanwhile in France, the more affordable brand Longchamp is the country's most desired brand, enjoying twice as many searches than its super-luxe counterpart Louis Vuitton.

The top 10 most searched luxury handbags globally:

1. Coach
2. Louis Vuitton
3. Chanel
4. Gucci
5. Longchamp
6. Prada
7. Hermès
8. Mulberry
9. Marc Jacobs
10. Michael Kors
