Sales of Holmes & Yang, the fashion label run by Katie Holmes, are reported to have risen stateside since the actress announced her divorce from Tom Cruise.

As they say, no publicity is bad publicity, and Katie Holmes is the latest proof of that.

Sales of her Holmes & Yang fashion line have reportedly soared since she announced her high-profile separation from Hollywood husband Tom Cruise at the end of last month.

READ: Katie Holmes to conquer New York Fashion Week

According to a clerk from the Beverly Hills branch of US department store Barney's, the brand has been "selling particularly well", reports Fox News . The New York branch has similarly confirmed that sales are up, although no exact figures have been given.

News of the sales boost comes two weeks after it was announced that Holmes & Yang are preparing to show their spring/summer 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week for the first time this September.

The former Dawson's Creek actress has been spotted wearing pieces from the label - which is designed in collaboration with stylist Jeanne Yang - a number of times since the split, including for a much-hyped appearance on Project Runway.

What I'm wearing: the perfect wedding guest outfit

Skirt suits can look gorgeous, but might not take you through to evening. Consider day cocktail wear - a crossbreed I didn't believe actually existed until I saw this dress...

Thinking ahead, and being organised, September is the perfect time to go to a wedding, isn't it? If we're being hypercritical, florally speaking, it isn't entirely ideal, what with roses, bluebells, tulips, peonies, camellias and just about every other bridal favourite being six times the price they were in June. But that's the bride's problem. We just have to show up. And 99.9 per cent of the time it's warmer than June (or July, or August).

IN PICTURES: Wedding outfit dos and don'ts

From a guest's point of view, September's got it all. You've still got the holiday tan. If you've been mathematically precise about the timings on your hair-washing schedule, you may even have a bit of beach hair going on. (Isn't it amazing, by the way, that however many hundreds of pounds you lavish in the salon, your hair always looks best on day 11 of the holiday, when the ratio of sand to salt, sweat, sun streaks and the leftover SPF24 oil conditioner that you sprayed in on day one, but forget to reapply thereafter, has reached its optimum balance?). And as usual, there's never any one around who will really appreciate the full glory of your fabulously, effortlessly, chicly tousled hair, husbands and children obviously being oblivious to whatever you do with it. Well, save it all up for the September wedding round and there will be.

If the wedding takes place in earlyish September, you may even have retained some vestigial traces of that relaxed, staying-up-till-2am, siesta-after-lunch glow, although obviously not if you've had to go through border control at any of our magnificent flagship airports. In which case, I recommend François Nars's blusher in Orgasm. Does what it says on the tin.

Anatomically, then, your body is at its wedding-guest peak. All you need is an outfit. I must confess that this year I've found it a struggle to find dressy clothes that I've really fallen in love with. There have been plenty of dresses, but the exploding prints make many of them a bit of a one-wear wonder. Don't get me wrong, the right print is a joy forever, but maintaining the integrity of a pattern, especially if it's a landscape or a portrait, can be a headache if you need to get the dress taken in or out. And they can date. Horribly.

Skirt suits, matching or mismatching, can look gorgeous, but might not take you through to an evening party. A different option is "day cocktail wear" - a crossbreed I didn't believe actually existed until I saw this dress. It's plain and demure, but with plenty going on, from that lovely full silhouette to the sheen. And it's all perfectly under control.

The skirt, for instance, isn't a huge pom-pom. There are no underlayers of tulle - never a good look on older women. It's a heavy-duty duchesse satin that holds shape without feeling remotely stiff and has a lovely gleam without looking tacky. Round necklines suit just about everyone, and as for the sleeves - how often do you find short sleeves the right length? Admittedly, the colour isn't any more retiring than the most virulent print, but parties are not the moment to come over all introverted and it's easy to ring the changes with belts, jewellery and contrasting accessories. Chartreuse is amazing for formal wear, not just because it works so well with black, navy, gold, orange and brown, but because it guarantees that even the sweetest, primmest style won't look twee. This dress is by Suzannah, who's become a bit of a favourite with the royal set. Obviously it costs a bomb, but it's a classic.

Equally obviously, one should always be suspicious of single-name-only designers. But on the evidence of this dress, and other, more affordable ones on her website, including lovely Forties-inspired tea dresses from £375 (there's a bespoke service too), the case against Suzannah is dismissed.

Ask Hilary Reader Makeover: Cruising to a stylish holiday wardrobe

Margaret Parris wanted a glamorous look for her cruise holiday without going overboard.

Margaret Parris, a careers coach from Epping, had an enviable problem. She and her husband, Kevin, were going on a romantic, 12-day cruise. On their trip to St Petersburg, the itinerary included cocktail parties, black-tie dinners, and an evening gala in the Hermitage.

Cue wardrobe panic!

"I'm feeling a bit time-warped," Margaret wrote before departure. "I'm in my forties and my wardrobe is very Nineties: it's safe, restrained, nothing adventurous. Because of my job, I'm not comfortable being overly casual, plus I'm afraid of dressing too young. My wardrobe just doesn't know where to go. I'm very conscious of my stomach, so I tend to conceal my waist, and with an ample chest I can look a bit blobby.

"This cruise will be the most glamorous thing I've ever done. I want to look and feel fabulous."

Hilary's verdict
"Having been on several of these cruises, I knew the sartorial demands. I gave Margaret a selection of casual/sightseeing and day-for-night pieces that could be dressed up or down, depending on shoes and accessories. But I concentrated on looks for after-dark that were glamorous without going too far on the bling or the cleavage. Fenwick's silk paisley tunic and restrained palazzos by Tolani were perfect for sunset drinks on deck. The Ben de Lisi beaded short cocktail dress was an LBD with extra edge. And the two long dresses were slinky and sophisticated, with a slight empire-line cut that lengthens the silhouette and is flattering for fuller busts."

Red dress, £99, sizes 8-18, John Lewis; 08456 049 049. Lucia clutch bag, £155, LK Bennett; 0844 581 5881. Necklace and earrings set, £18 and bracelet, £12.50, Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234. Ring, £6.50, Daisy & Eve at Evans; 0844 984 0262. Shoes, £110, Dune; 0207 258 3605.

Blue dress, £125, sizes 8-18, No. 1 Jenny Packham at Debenhams; 08445 616161. Clutch bag, £45, Accessorize; 08448 110 068. Necklace, £15, Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234. Ring, £7.50, Ribbon & Asher at Dorothy Perkins; 0844 984 0261. Shoes, £165, Kat Maconie for Dune; 0207 258 3605 .

READ: Ask Hilary Reader Makeover: Too tall to be stylish?

Margaret's verdict
"I love my new haircut and make-up tips. The striped dress and paisley top with white trousers were great for trips ashore, and the evening wear was sensational. The short cocktail dress gave me the confidence to get my legs out more often, and I loved the cut on the shoulders. The John Lewis and No.1 Jenny Packham at Debenhams dresses were my favourites: ultra-glam, with a hint of cleavage. I felt stylish throughout the cruise. I've worn the orange paisley 'pyjamas' to a few parties since we returned and received many flattering comments. You've given me the confidence to wear things I like and not because I have to 'fit' in. You really have helped re-energise my wardrobe and my thinking!"

Dress, £150, sizes 8-18, Ben de Lisi at Debenhams; 08445 616161. 10 Denier Ladder Resist tights, £4, necklace, £18, and earrings, £5, Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234. Milford clutch bag, £195, LK Bennett; 0844 581 5881. Ring, £7.50, Dorothy Perkins; 0844 984 0261. Shoes, £59.99, Zara; 0800 030 4238.

The make-up
"I concentrated on light, lush glamour to suit the black-tie events," says Jane Richardson, make-up artist for Nars. "I used Sheer Glow foundation in Deauville by Nars, with a little concealer, sealed with loose powder in Flesh, powdering around the eye to make it easier to blend the eye shadows. To contour and define the eyes, I used matte shadows: Bali on the bridge and the brows, Biarritz to blend, and Pandora to line the eyes. I didn't use mascara as Margaret has great false lashes. Laguna Bronzing by Nars powder gave extra contours, finished with Orgasm blusher on the cheeks. Dragon Girl red lipstick gave her a dramatic evening look, while Dolce Vita velvet matte lip-pencil with Ophelia lip gloss was the softer day option."

Silk paisley top, £170, sizes XS-XL, Lauren by Ralph Lauren at John Lewis; 08456 049 049. Trousers, £45, sizes 6-18; and bracelet-necklace set, £15, all Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234. Set of bangles, £12, Daisy & Eve at Evans; 0844 984 0262. (Underneath: Miracle Suit hi-waist thigh slimmer, £35, sizes 8-18, Bhs; 0845 196 0000). Shoes, £45, Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234.

Dress, £45, sizes 8 - 22; hat, £17.50; and earrings, £9.50, all Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234. Jacket, £45, sizes 8-20, Principles by Ben De Lisi at Debenhams; 08445 616161. Belt, £65, Jigsaw; 020 8392 5603. Sandals, £25, Marks & Spencer; 0845 302 1234.

The hair
"I took about an inch off the back and sides of Margaret's bob, cutting in to make less width and layering it to open up her silhouette" says Henry Teare, hairstylist at Neil Cornelius. "For evenings, I pinned the top layer on the crown, and brushed the fringe over the temples."

British women wear highest heels in Europe

The average heel worn by British women is 3.3 inches, with celebrities like Victoria Beckham leading the trend.

20 July 2012

British women totter about in some of the highest heels in Europe, research reveals.

With home-grown celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole leading the trend, the penchant for sometimes painful stilettos sees an average heel height of 3.3 inches here.

This compares to an average of 2.4 inches among French women and 2.7 inches among German women.

The Spanish were closer to the British in their love of height, wearing an average heel of 3.2 inches, the survey by foot care brand Compeed found.

This may reflect the fact that British and Spanish women tend to be smaller than their German counterparts, the company suggested.

Women in North East England favoured the tallest shoe, opting for an average heel height of 3.46ins.

Londoners trailed behind in their 3.37-inch heels, while women in Eastern England were the most conservative with their footwear, wearing heels averaging 3.25 inches.

Heel height came at a price, however, with 50 per cent of women admitting they were prepared to endure a level of pain comparable with toothache and earache to wear their high heels.

Almost two thirds (65 per cent) of British women cited blisters as a significant source of pain resulting from wearing high heels

Psychologist Emma Kenny said: "Research has suggested that a tall woman is considered more assertive, confident, richer, capable, successful, independent and even more intelligent than her shorter peers.

"Perception is incredibly powerful and it makes sense that the feedback we receive from the way we are treated by others will reinforce our choices.

"The British woman is an ambitious breed, and if putting on a pair of six inch heels increases her career prospects, rightly or wrongly, the savvy individual will do so".

Some 3,792 women were polled for the survey.

Meet Pierre Sarkozy

Monsieur Pierre Sarkozy, the DJ son of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, strikes a pose for Mr Porter.

BY Olivia Bergin | 19 July 2012

To Paris, where 26-year-old Pierre Sarkozy, AKA DJ Mosey, is finally spreading his wings as a DJ in his home city - and showing off his style.

Mr Porter caught up with the long-haired son of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, snapping him in various laid-back looks around the capital.

Photo: Laurence Ellis

"When my father was president I didn't want that to be the big issue" he says of his career as a DJ and hip-hop producer. "I wanted to prove my value outside of France first."

Sharing a musical passion with his stepmother Carla Bruni (but not quite the same genre, as the former model is of the accoustic guitar-playing, singer-songwriter variety) we wonder if the two ever collaborated inside the gilded walls of the Élysée Palace.

Music aside, film characters make up Sarkozy's style icons, notably Michael J Fox in Back to the Future and Johnny Depp in 21 Jump Street. "I still have the pump-up sneakers that Michael J Fox wears" he admits, adding: "I'd like to grow up one day, but I'm still into the jeans and the sneakers."

The upside of this is that thankfully Pierre's shopping edit is free from the stack heels the diminutive Sarkozy senior favours.

Photo: Laurence Ellis

This foray into modelling an apparent one-off, it seems his father's new lack of presidential status is like a metaphorical weight off his Lanvin-clad shoulders.

"Now I can play in France because I've showed people that I'm good at what I do, and not because of who I am."

Louis Vuitton Unveils Yayoi Kusama Collaboration and Window Installations

Louis Vuitton Unveils Yayoi Kusama Collaboration and Window Installations Courtesy of Louis Vuitton

Yayoi Kusama window installation at the Louis Vuitton flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Louis Vuitton has a long history of collaborating with famed artists—Richard Prince and Takashi Murakami among them. The latest pairing is with 83-year-old Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, one of the hottest commodities in the contemporary art scene despite having voluntarily lived in a mental hospital since 1977. The artist has become almost as prolific as her work in recent years thanks to her off-the-grid life, a penchant for electric hued wigs and a momentum for churning out new art that has many comparing Kusama to Andy Warhol (who had been a friend).

The collaboration with Louis Vuitton Creative Director Marc Jacobs includes shoes, handbags, shirts, skirts, sunglasses and other accessories all featuring Kusama’s signature dots.

In addition, Louis Vuitton unveiled window installations at its flagship Manhattan store on Fifth Avenue yesterday, paying tribute to three of Kusama’s signature motifs: “Beginning of the Universe,” “Eternal Blooming Flowers in My Mind” and “Self Obliteration.” One window features floating flowers, another features a life-size figure of Kusama (Vuitton is also selling dolls in Kusama’s likeness). The store’s façade has also been covered in black dots in homage to Kusama’s work. Similar window installations will be revealed in all 453 Louis Vuitton stores worldwide in the coming weeks.

Kusama made her first stateside appearance in over 30 years at the unveiling. In a wheel chair, the artist waved to throngs of onlookers and fans. “I promised myself that one day I would conquer New York and make my name in the world,” she told the crowd. Fittingly Kusama had been a fixture of the New York avant-garde art scene in the 1960s, before moving back to her native Japan in 1973.

As for how the collaboration came about, Kusama told Women’s Wear Daily: “Marc Jacobs came to see me in Tokyo in 2006 and he asked me if I wanted to come to the States and do fashion. That sort of encouraged me. At that time, I was writing poems and novels. Fashion has always attracted me.”

Outgoing Louis Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle told Women’s Wear Daily, such projects "tend to be a commercial success because of the strength of the artist and the strength of Vuitton," He continued, “It’s not to put products on shelves.” Past collaborations have sold out swiftly and have been widely copied by counterfeiters.

The launch of Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton corresponds with the opening of a retrospective of Kusama’s work at the Whitney Museum of Art, opening July 12th, so let the dot invasion begin.

It's no surprise designer Leah Lawrence has a knack for swim design. After spending the first five years of her life in the small, landlocked country of Swaziland in southern Africa, Lawrence's family relocated to Seattle and, later, Maui.

"I love what swimwear represents...being in or near the water, being in the sun, and being relaxed," she says of her collection, Drifting Arrows, which officially launched this summer. "I also felt like there was still a need for fresh and interesting swim lines."

Composed of four classic but undeniably fresh swim styles, Lawrence prioritized quality and precise tailoring over an expansive debut.

"I decided to import my own fabric because the best I could find was in Italy, which I buy directly from the mill," she explains. After exhaustive fittings and adjustments, each piece—a retro, high-waisted bikini, a sporty cross-back bikini, a feminine one piece with a bow in the back, and a cross-back one piece—is manufactured in the U.S.

"In the design phase I really focus on what I believe women are looking for and only go forward with styles that have a timeless quality and ease," says Lawrence. With the collection en route to Maryam Nassir Zadeh on the Lower East Side, Drifting Arrows' easy, elegant swimwear will soon be within reach for New Yorkers.

Meet Lanvin's 82-year-old campaign star

French fashion house Lanvin has decided to use 'real people' for their autumn/winter 2012 campaign, making a star out of octogenarian dancer Jacquie "Tajah" Murdock.

Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz has decided to cast 'real people' as opposed to models for the French luxury label's autumn/winter 2012 campaign.

So far only two images from the campaign, which was shot by Steven Meisel, have surfaced, one showing a young lilac-fringed woman in a black and white dress and another featuring 82-year-old Jacquie "Tajah" Murdock.

"I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes," Elbaz told WWD of the campaign. "It felt like a crazy family, and I like that."

The campaign was develeoped under the creative direction of House + Holme, the creative agency run by Ronnie Newhouse and Stephen Wolstenholme, with make-up by the legendary Pat McGrath, hair by Guido Palau and set design by Mary Howard.

IN PICTURES: Lanvin autumn/winter 2012

Since the images were released a day or so ago, Murdock has become something of an internet sensation. Although Lanvin haven't publicly named any of their new stars in the campaign images, the octogenarian was already a vaguely familiar face thanks to her appearance in Ari Cohen's OAP-focused street style book, Advanced Style , but we had no idea of just how fascinating she was.

Tajah's full campaign image. Photo: Steven Meisel

Fashionista.com tracked her down to ask her all about her life and it turns out there's more to her than just enviable bone structure. She's an active dancer who performed at New York's legendary Apollo Theatre in her youth (Tajah is her dancer name), she has three, yes three, degrees from New York University - and she gets stopped in the street all the time by people wanting to take her picture thanks to her unique style.

She seems to have won Alber over too: "Alber Elbaz kept kissing me and saying 'I love you, I love you, I love you!' He came to say goodbye to me and said, 'Imagine if I never met you.'"

Her reaction to scoring a high fashion campaign? "Long time coming." We wish she was our nan.

Click through more of Lanvin's autumn/winter 2012 campaign images at the top of the story (they include an equally adorable old man in hi-tops.)

Lanvin's creative director, Alber Elbaz, has also cast real women and men, ranging in age from 18 to 82.

“I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes,” Elbaz  told WWD.

When they aren't posing for the camera, Lanvin's cast of non-models have regular careers. One's a waiter, and one's a milliner.  The campaign's most senior model was even a former Apollo Theater dancer.

By the looks of a few preview shots, it doesn't seem like Elbaz sacrificed any glamour by ditching the professionals.

The campaign makes its magazine debut in September issues, and an accompanying video with behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot will launch August 21.

It was during a job search in 2008 that Vincent Lai began making his first bag prototypes.

"I made some samples just to get it out of my head," explains the Brooklyn native."If I didn't get them out just to see if they worked, I'd keeping thinking and obsessing over them."

Orders began trickling in as the images were passed around the Internet. "I thought, 'Hmm...maybe, I can do this for a living?'” Suffice to say, it wasn't long before Lai's Recession-era job search had concluded with the launch of his own collection, Skinny Vinny.

"I always find myself thinking about new bags, new shapes and new ways of carrying things," explains Lai, who studied industrial design at Carnegie Mellon before moving back to Brooklyn. "I can be out with friends and I find myself drifting off thinking about it...how the bag falls or hugs the body, or what problems they seem to have with their bags is very helpful to my process."

As such, Lai prioritizes function as well as design, striving to bring a sense of "urban sophistication" as well as utility to every collection (which is entirely handmade in his Brooklyn studio). The bags range in price from $58-$250.

His practical Cattley backpack, for example, is executed in a tough linen material finished with a sporty stripe motif. Hidden pockets on either side make the bag particularly functional for schlepping around the city.

For fall, Lai plans to make his luggage pieces even more durable. "I have a few tech bags in the works," he explains. "They are going to be a bit more heavy-duty and weather-proof. I'm excited to work with some tech fibers and new materials."

From $50 to $250 at www.skinny-vinny.com.

Marion Cotillard: She Wears It Well

French actress Marion Cotillard gives the new Dior couture collection its first public outing.

Marion Cotillard gave the box fresh Christian Dior couture collection its first public outing last night.

The French actress brought more than a little class to Leicester Square at the premiere of the Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, wearing an ensemble fit for a femme fatale. The orange bustier and houndstooth pencil skirt, and gold waistband, were first seen on model Melissa Tammerijn (below) at the critically acclaimed Christian Dior autumn/winter 2012 haute couture show, the first by the former Jil Sander designer Raf Simons, just two weeks ago.

IN PICTURES: Christian Dior haute couture show

Fashion designers adore dressing the Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard - breathtakingly beautiful, womanly, sexy, she is as alluring as the young Catherine Deneuve - and as the face of Dior it was no doubt always planned that she would be the woman to launch the look beyond the catwalk.

SEE: Marion Cotillard's new campaign for Dior

Her appearance underlines the modern approach that Simons has brought not simply to the label but to the art (and business) of couture itself. Dior haute couture has not been seen often at film premieres in Leicester Square. But whether Cotillard wore the outfit to slip in for fries at McDonalds after the show is not yet clear.

Sales of Dr. Martens soar

Online fashion retailer ASOS has seen sales of Dr. Martens shoes rocket by 230 per cent over the last year.

Online fashion retailer ASOS have seen sales of Dr. Martens shoes rocket, reporting a 230 per cent rise from 2011 to 2012.

The increase is in line with equally booming sales figures in France, the US and Hong Kong, and follows the company's March announcement that they had made profits of £22 million.

Read: Dr. Martens release Liberty print collection

Current owners of the company, the Northamptonshire-based Griggs family, announced in February that Dr. Martens was up for sale. Speculation followed that Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman, owner of investment fund Pamplona Capital, was interested in purchasing the company for £200 million .

Oliver Tezcan, buying manager at ASOS, told The Guardian that it was not Dr. Martens signature boot style that was flying off the virtual shelf at rapid speed, but the brand's three-hole shoe - which has been worn by Alexa Chung, Rihanna and Agyness Deyn, who is an ambassador for the brand.

Another big seller for ASOS has been the brand's collaboration with luxury London department store Liberty , which saw Dr. Martens most iconic style covered in a number of Liberty's floral prints. "We knew a collaboration would highlight a really interesting discord between our two brands and bring a different audience in to Liberty. The collection sold way beyond our very high expectations," said Ed Burstell, Liberty's managing director.

Purse Purge: Ilana Kohn Carries Cat Toys, Cover Girl Lip Stain

A Thread NY "One to Watch" for  2012, Ilana Kohn creates punchy ready-to-wear collections characterized by bold colors and unusual patterns. Not surprisingly, the quirky NYC designer keeps her Rennes handbag stuffed with a few irreverent keepsakes (a cat toy found in her boyfriend's shoe, for example) along with the everyday necessities (Band-Aids are handy for late-night scissor accidents—which, sadly, Kohn is very familiar with).

1. Band-Aids – "I need a bunch of these today because I cut myself pretty badly making patterns last night. I hope the factory's not too squeamish cause there's definitely blood on one of the patterns."

2. Keys – "Ironically, the 'I Heart NY' key is to my parents house in Virginia. I really do need a new keychain, though."

3. Baggu tote – "I always always keep at least one of these with me."

4. Cat Toy – "The boyfriend found this in his shoe once and I decided to carry it around with me since it reminds me of my beloved fur baby."

5. Daily Essentials – "My Comme des Garçons change purse, trusty Ray Bans, brush and mirror, [lip balm], lip stain (Cover Girl, the best), business cards, notebook and pen."

Stella McCartney received her Honorary Fellowship from the University of the Arts London yesterday and announced that she will fund a new scholarship for MA Fashion students studying at Central Saint Martins, one of the university's six colleges.

McCartney, who graduated from CSM in 1995, described her time there as "life changing", before explaining: "To get to a college like this is so hard for so many talented young people. For that reason, I am setting up this scholarship and I encourage other fortunate fashion houses to do the same."

IN PICTURES: Stella McCartney's greatest fashion hits

The Stella McCartney Scholarship will fund home, EU and international MA Fashion students on the basis of academic excellence and financial need, and will also include a one year paid placement working at Stella McCartney fashion house. McCartney will offer £25,000 of funding each year, although it is not yet known how many students that sum will support.

The first scholarships will be awarded this October and those who are sponsored by the programme will have to commit to the designer's strict no fur, leather or other animal products policy.

Central Saint Martins MA Fashion course has nurtured some of the greatest fashion talent, including Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders and Phoebe Philo and is presided over my Professor Louise Wilson, OBE .

Alexander McQueen launches the Heroine handbag

Meet the Heroine, Alexander McQueen's new 'It Bag' which goes on sale today. Warning: may be addictive.

We love it when a new hero bag comes to market so we have something fresh to drool over, pine for and covet. The latest object of our affection comes courtesy of those accessory maestros at Alexander McQueen, who today launch their new baby, the 'Heroine' (see what they did there?).

Described by McQueen as a "timeless luxury piece" the Heroine is the luxe love child of the satchel and the doctor's bag, with a teardrop profile and short, tote-style handles.

It comes in a small, rectangular shape, and a medium square form (already spotted swinging on Zoe Saldana's arm), and is basically a total beauty.

To mark the launch, and McQueen's increased focus on accessories, the Heroine is starring in its very own campaign shot by renowned still life photographer Dan Tobin Smith in which she sits in all her black croc amazingness spot lit on a crisp white graphic backdrop.

Spoiler alert: if you're holding out for a Heroine to call your own, maybe double check your bank balance before dashing to the Alexander McQueen store. The 'cheapest' version in oxblood suede comes in at £1,345, while the black croc of ad campaign fame will set you back £22,295.

A hefty price tag indeed, but much like the class A drug with which she virtually shares a name, when something's this addictive, consumers seem find the money somehow.

Vanessa Seward and A.P.C. Launch Collaboration With Couture Fabrics

Vanessa Seward and A.P.C. Launch Collaboration With Couture Fabrics Courtesy of A.P.C.

Former Azzaro Creative Director Vanessa Seward has collaborated with French label A.P.C. on a capsule collection for fall. The 15-piece collection includes dresses and a variety of separates. Prices range from $515 for a printed silk shirt to $810 for a lamé tunic. Seward became known during her time at Azzaro for her distinctive take on 1970s glamour, and it’s a cool factor she has brought to this collaboration.

“I started out by choosing couture fabrics which could relate to my style," Seward said, "but it was important to keep the collection simple and well cut in the spirit of A.P.C.”

Seward, along with A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, sourced fabrics from the archives of Swiss textile company Soieries Abraham, one of the main fabric suppliers to designers Cristóbal Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent. Seward had worked within the archives during her time at Yves Saint Laurent, when she worked under Tom Ford.

“The gold lamé chiffon is a new fabric as before lamés would tend to be thicker and scratch," Seward said of one of the fabrics she chose for the collaboration. "As for the prints, they have such beautiful archives it was difficult to choose. We decided on a navy print and created a red one with them. The brocade came from a vintage 1960s [Jean] Patou dress I had, and when I showed it to them we realized it came from their archives.”

The designer hopes women will mix and match these pieces with what they already own.

“I attended the cocktail launch in Paris and loved seeing how each client would personalize the pieces—for example, wear the lamé shirt with her own grey faded jeans and a vintage Chanel dark brown tweed jacket,” she said.

Working with A.P.C.’s Jean Touitou proved to be a learning experience for Seward, which isn't surprising given that even Kanye West has sought out Touitou's fashion advice. Seward says, “I was amazed at Jean’s knowledge in every stage...from the fabrics…to the details of fit, he has very high standards in regard to production. I also admired his sharp editing of the collection.”

A.P.C. & Vanessa Seward is in A.P.C. stores now and online at APC.fr.

Team USA Uniforms Revealed AP

From left, swimmer Ryan Lochte, decathlete Bryan Clay, rower Giuseppe Lanzone and soccer player Heather Mitts model the official Team USA Opening Ceremony parade uniform designed by Ralph Lauren.

Ralph Lauren, three time outfitter of the U.S. Olympic team, unveiled the uniforms athletes will don during the Opening Ceremony on July 27 in London.

Calling it an "updated take on old-world elegance," David Lauren, son and executive vice president to Ralph Lauren, told the "Today" show the aim was to achieve a classic look that would look good on all athletes, from wrestlers to gymnasts.

The outfits consists of a white cotton sport shirt with a red and navy necktie under a double-breasted blazer for men, and a cream skirt with a white blouse under a red and navy scarf and a navy blazer for women. All athletes will also sport berets. More casual outfits were prepared for atheletes to wear within the Olympic Village.

Athletes gave their approval on "Today" on Tuesday morning.

"It's really exciting to be in this outfit right now and know we'll be wearing it in the Opening Ceremonies," said fencer Tim Morehouse.

Natalia Vodianova helps Russian flood victims

Top Russian model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova flew to her homeland to aid those left homeless by the devastating floods which left 170 people dead.

Inconspicuously dressed in a black shirt and skinny jeans, the heartache etched over Natalia Vodianova's face was all too clear to see. Just three days after floods hit the Russian town of Krymsk earlier this month, claiming 170 lives and leaving thousands homeless, Vodianova landed in her native country to lend a helping hand.

Pictures surfaced of the 30-year-old Guerlain model, who is thought to have amassed a personal fortune of £16 million, hauling supplies of bottled water and nappies.

The British-based mother of three, who grew up in poverty and was discovered selling fruit on a roadside stall, is more than used to helping those from her homeland who are less fortunate. In 2004, she founded the Naked Heart Foundation , a charity dedicated to creating playgrounds in which underprivileged children can play safely.

SEE: Natalia Vodianova for Etam

"Having visited Krymsk, I decided that the best thing The Naked Heart Foundation can do for the kids who survived the tragedy is to give them a safe, colourful and cosy place to play" she writes on the Naked Heart Foundation website .

"If adults are kept busy cleaning up and trying to fix things, children are left to watch them and feel helpless. The Naked Heart Foundation's Children's Play Tent will be a big space where children can draw, paint, play and interact in a safe, comfortable and bright environment."

The new centre is staffed by both professional psychologists and play specialists as well as volunteers, and is expected to stay open for several months.

If you want to make a donation for the project, please visit Natalia's page on JustGiving.com .

The Duchess of Cambridge steps out in Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney was Kate's designer of choice for a visit to London's National Portrait Gallery today.

The Duchess of Cambridge played a diplomatic blinder this morning, arriving for the opening of the 'Road to 2012: Aiming High' exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London wearing a dress by Stella McCartney - the designer behind the Team GB Olympic kit.

IN PICTURES: The Duchess of Cambridge's fashion hits and misses

The Duchess has only been spotted in Stella once before - a salmon pink satin pussy bow dress she wore for dinner at the Waterside Inn in Bray, Berkshire last summer - a fact which is hard to believe given the designer's gift for designing elegant classics for the modern woman.

The bright blue tunic dress from the Stella McCartney autumn 2012 collection is currently available to buy on the Matches, MyTheresa and Selfridges websites for £510-£515, but will no doubt be flying off the virtual rails as I type.

As a side note, it's also nice to see Kate take a break from her beloved nude courts and team the dress with some more modern black kitten heels, but for us, the necklace was a flourish too far. Some things are best kept simple - a motto Stella has built her fashion empire on.
