Marion Cotillard gave the box fresh Christian Dior couture collection its first public outing last night.

The French actress brought more than a little class to Leicester Square at the premiere of the Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, wearing an ensemble fit for a femme fatale. The orange bustier and houndstooth pencil skirt, and gold waistband, were first seen on model Melissa Tammerijn (below) at the critically acclaimed Christian Dior autumn/winter 2012 haute couture show, the first by the former Jil Sander designer Raf Simons, just two weeks ago.

Fashion designers adore dressing the Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard - breathtakingly beautiful, womanly, sexy, she is as alluring as the young Catherine Deneuve - and as the face of Dior it was no doubt always planned that she would be the woman to launch the look beyond the catwalk.

Her appearance underlines the modern approach that Simons has brought not simply to the label but to the art (and business) of couture itself. Dior haute couture has not been seen often at film premieres in Leicester Square. But whether Cotillard wore the outfit to slip in for fries at McDonalds after the show is not yet clear.
