Come behind-the-scenes at the Lookbook shoot for Julien Macdonald's debut 'Bespoke' made-to-measure collection for private clients.
BY Belinda White | 09 July 2012Julien Macdonald's eponymous ready-to-wear label has been going strong for 16 years, and earned the affable Welshman a British Fashion Award for Designer of the Year in 2001, an OBE, a turn as a judge on Britain's Next Top Model , and a line for high street department store Debenhams along the way.
Then, in January, the designer announced he was to diversify further, by launching private client made-to-measure line: Julien Macdonald Bespoke.
Made in Britain and sold through his London atelier, the line's autumn/winter 2012 debut is nonetheless very much a love letter to New York, taking inspiration from the city's landmark architecture including the Chrysler building (styles boast names including Hamptons, Long Island, Wall Street and Central Park).
To mark his new project - and so that we can get a close-up look at the intricate collection in action - Macdonald and his team made this short film on the set of the Lookbook shoot.
While the designs seen in the film (and in the pictures below), form the core of the range, private clients will of course get the chance to work closely with Macdonald's team from scratch on the dresses of their dreams.
Take a look at Julien doing what he does best…
